동물약국과 펫팜

 국내에 반려동물을 양육하는 가구가 지속적으로 증가하면서 동물약국 수도 2015년 3305개에서 2019년 5800여개로 가파른 성장세를 보이고 있다. 동물약국이란 동물용 의약품의 취급을 목적으로 하는 약국을 말한다. 일반약국을 개설한 약사라면 누구나 동물약국개설등록증을 발급받아서 동물용 의약품을 취급할 수 있다.

 

 동물용 의약품도 의약분업이 시행되고 있어서 동물약국에서 취급할 수 있는 품목에는 제한이 있다. 동물용 의약품은 크게 수의사의 처방전이 있어야만 동물약국에서 구매가 가능한 분류와 수의사 처방전 없이도 동물약국에서 구매가능한 분류로 나눌 수 있다. 동물약국에서 취급하는 의약품에는 심장사상충약, 내부종합구충제, 피부질환연고, 예방접종백신, 항생제, 소화기질환약 등이 있다. 이 중 심장사상충약과 내부종합구충제는 대부분의 동물약국에서 취급하는 것으로, 97.6%의 동물약국에서 판매하고 있다.

 

 그러면 이러한 동물용 의약품은 어떻게 유통될까? 동물용 의약품은 동물용 의약품 도매상과 직접 거래하거나 온라인 몰을 통해 유통된다. 최근에는 약사들이 보다 쉽게 동물용 의약품을 취급할 수 있도록 도와주는 앱인 ‘펫팜’도 출시되었다. 동물약국 플랫폼인 ‘펫팜’은 PET PHARMACY의 줄임말로 반려동물을 위한 동물용 의약품 유통을 도와주는 앱이다. 동물약국과 반려동물의 데이터를 기반으로 하여 반려동물의 의료 환경을 개선하고자 하는 목표를 가지고 있다.

 

 펫팜은 동물약국을 운영하는 약사들에게 동물용 의약품을 공급하고, 공급받은 후에도 지역별로 매니저를 배정하여 원활한 판매를 할 수 있도록 동물용 의약품의 운영부터 반품까지 도와주고 있다.

 

 소비자들에게는 반려동물의 정보를 앱에 등록하면 원하는 동물용 의약품의 용도, 기능, 종류와 같은 내용들을 열람할 수 있게 도와준다. 또한 근처 동네에 있는 동물약국의 위치를 알려주어 동물용 의약품을 보다 저렴하고 간편하게 구매할 수 있게 해준다.

 

 한국임상약학회지의 ‘반려동물 애호가 대상 동물의약품 사용 및 동물약국 이용현황’ 을 보면 동물의약품과 관련하여 약사에게 바라는 점으로 전문적인 약의 제공, 상세 복약지도가 가장 높은 비율을 차지하였다. 이처럼 약사의 동물의약품 관련 전문성에 큰 기대를 보이고 있다. 펫팜을 통하여 동물용 의약품 약국을 찾고 있는 소비자들의 수요 또한 꾸준히 증가하고 있으므로, 동물용 의약품을 취급하는 약사들은 이러한 수요를 충족하기 위해 꾸준한 공부와 노력을 통해 전문성과 신뢰성을 쌓아 동물약국의 활성화와 직능확대를 위해 노력해야 한다.

Among them, heartworm drugs and internal insecticide are handled by most animal pharmacies and are sold by 97.6% of animal pharmacies.

 

 So how are these animal medicines distributed? Animal medicines are directly traded with animal medicine wholesalers or distributed through online malls. Recently, Pet Farm, an app that helps pharmacists handle animal medicines more easily, has also been released.

 

 Pet Farm, an animal pharmacy platform, is short for PET PHARMACY and is an app that helps distribute animal medicines for pets. It aims to improve the medical environment of pets based on animal pharmacies and pet data.

 

 Pet Farm supplies animal medicines to pharmacists who run animal pharmacies, and even after receiving them, managers are assigned to each region to help them operate and return animal medicines so that they can sell them smoothly.

 

 For consumers, registering pet information in the app helps them access the contents such as the purpose, function, and type of animal medicine they want. It also informs the location of animal pharmacies in nearby neighborhoods, making it cheaper and easier to purchase animal medicines.

 

 According to the Korean Journal of Clinical Pharmaceutical Association, the provision of professional drugs and detailed medication guidance accounted for the highest percentage of what they wanted from pharmacists in relation to animal drugs. As such, there are high expectations for pharmacists' expertise in animal medicine. Since the demand of consumers looking for animal pharmacies through pet farms is also steadily increasing, pharmacists handling animal medicines should strive to invigorate animal pharmacies and expand their functions by building expertise and reliability through steady study and effort.
